Screw thread closures N9 (9mm) 2ml vials and closures are universally suitable on most autosamplers, convenient in handling, and available in a broad selection of different cap colors and septum materials. They fulfill all requirements with regard to tightness and analytical purity for GC as well as for HPLC. Due to the relatively thin septa penetration is safe and easy.

The slit allows ambient gas to equalize the gas in the vial so that a vacuum is not created in the vial from the tight seal around the needle.
If coring or clogging from a narrow needle or needle deflection from highly durable septa material is a concern, then choosing a pre-slit septum is a better choice.
A PTFE/Silicone with a slitted septum allows for easier needle penetration as well as to release of the vacuum that forms when a large volume of sample is withdrawn from a vial.
